kim-donahue-business-skills-trainer-profileKim is an experienced and skilled trainer and facilitator with a particular interest in the areas of equalities, volunteering, research, social mediaand all aspects of organisational development. She has over 25 years of professional experience in the voluntary sector. She received an MSc in Voluntary Sector Organisation from the London School of Economics and Political Science and spent fourteen years in the US managing projects and doing grassroots organizing. Kim specialises in working with small organisations and groups representing minority communities. Kim is also a Research Associate with the Institute for Volunteering Research (IVR, which is part of NCVO) since 2006.

Kim has been a Big Local Representative for the last three years working with communities around London. She is also a trainer for Tower Hamlets CVS and has done work for local HealthWatch groups around the country. She is currently working with IVR on volunteering research projects.

Kim has developed and led training for both large and small groups in a variety of settings. Her training topics have included strategic planning, fundraising, evaluations and monitoring, grassroots outreach, leadership development, community organising, environmental restoration techniques, ‘get out the vote’, practice-based research, marketing and social media.

Kim has spent the last ten years as a freelance consultant based in London but before relocating, she was the Regional Manager of Outreach and Training at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation from 1992 until 2002. In that post, she was responsible for all aspects of training and outreach and a volunteer programme that involved over 10,000 people; developing watershed-wide educational and restoration projects; training mechanisms and leadership development programmes for grassroots leaders.

Kim has extensive grassroots organising and strategy experience and has worked with hundreds of organisations including local, national and international groups. Her background includes working on a number of electoral campaigns, including US Presidential, Senate, House of Representative and many local and statewide candidates. Kim graduated Magna cum Laude from Rhode Island College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and the Chafee Award from the Political Science Department.

Kim has been an active volunteer for over forty years and is currently the treasurer of her local residents group.
